Sad news for horror fans this week as we heard of film director Wes
Craven passing away on Sunday at age 76 after a battle with brain
cancer.
He is best known for the classic horror A Nightmare
on Elm Street of which he wrote as well as directed. This film gave the
world, and our own nightmares, Freddy
Krueger.
Scream
was another box-office sensation for Mr Craven but of course there are many
more, here's a few of our favourites from some of our staff…

Runner
Blade Runner is definitely one of those films that any film buff has in there
collection. This sci-fi classic is directed by well known sci-fi director Ridley
Scott and stars Harrison
Ford, Rutger
Hauer and Sean
Young. It is set in Los Angeles in the year 2019.
The visual style of the film was amazing with Scott taking landscapes from
Hong Kong and influenced by the Fritz Lang film Metropolis.

The 2015 Emmy Award nominations were announced in Los
Angeles by Orange
Is the New Black star Uzo Aduba and So You Think You Can
Dance US host Cat Deeley. The ceremony is set to take place on
September 20 at the Microsoft Theatre in LA.
Stand out nominations this year go to Game of
Thrones with an epic 24 nominations in total, American Horror
Story: Freak Show with 19 and Mad Men with
it's final season scoring 11 nominations in total.

Released just in time for the school holidays is the 2015 TV show Thunderbirds are
Go! with volume 1 and 2 available on DVD for just $19.99 each.
It is the adaptation of the original 1960's Thunderbirds
series using a combination of CGI and miniatures made by NZ's own Weta
Workshop.
The new series of the TV classic, Thunderbirds, will appeal to the little
ones and bring back memories for those of us that grew up following the
adventures of the Tracy family. All your favourite characters return with a
slight revamp into the modern age plus a new Thunderbird craft, ‘Thunderbird
Shadow’ (aka Thunderbird S).
